Bourbon County Rescue is a non-profit organization started by Elaine and Charlie Fuerniss (pronounced furnace). The Fuernisses started a spay clinic to answer the need for a low-cost spay and neuter clinic in the rural community of Bourbon County and surrounding neighboring counties. Thousands of pets have been spayed and neutered thanks to the Fuernisses and the veterinarians and wonderful volunteers who dedicate their personal time to keeping pets safe and without unwanted pregnancies.
From the spay and neuter clinic Bourbon County Rescue was born. BCR is a group dedicated to finding forever homes for the myriad of unwanted dogs and cats found in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky. The rescue consists of a network of foster homes who take in pets from high kill shelters, strays and owner turn-ins. The pets are then placed on Petfinder where they are matched with their forever families!
Almost every other Saturday Charlie and Elaine drive up from Kentucky to Petco in Germantown, MD with dogs, puppies, cats and kittens all needing a forever home with someone to love and care for them.
