Animal Advocates promotes the adoption of pets from Howard County Animal Control (“The Shelter”). Our volunteers help to place given-up and unclaimed stray cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, and occasional reptiles into permanent homes. We do this by working in kennels and cages at the shelter exercising, socializing and showing animals to potential adopters, taking photos of the animals and delivering them on picture boards to over 90 locations in the area, and posting them on our website. We work extensively with dozens of species, breed, and wildlife rescue groups, all of which pull animals in trouble from local shelters. We provide financial, volunteer, and administrative support to these groups, and secure temporary shelter to save countless animals each year. Please note that we are not affiliated with the Howard County Animal Welfare Society. Animal Advocates of Howard County – Pets Available for Adoption Favorite

The PFRA functions as a placement/referral service for individuals seeking to place their ferret(s) in a new home and for persons interested in adopting ferrets. While we no longer accept casual ferret surrenders from private owners, the PFRA works closely with other rescue agencies to ensure that surrendered and confiscated ferrets are not euthanized due to lack of space and resources. We also strive to further education for ferret owners fielding questions via e-mail and phone and for the general public through Ferret Awareness Days at local pet stores, pet store employee education and the distribution of health and care information. The Ferret Haven By The Sea is a non-profit no-kill animal shelter which is dedicated to helping ferrets, and educating the public in the proper care and treatment of ferrets. We take in lost, unclaimed, or owner-released ferrets and place them in homes. If the ferret is sick, veterinary care is provided before adoption. All ferrets are current on their distemper shots. If a ferrets’ health or age does not allow for adoption, we care for that ferret until its natural death. We NEVER put a ferret to sleep because we could not find him/her a home. Favorite

Due to low membership the Baltimore Ferret Club has dissolved. The Baltimore Ferret Club Inc., is a ferret club and rescue serving the Baltimore, Harford, Carroll and surrounding counties in the Delmarva area. As a club, our goal is to educate the public and ferret owners on the proper care of ferrets. We hold monthly meetings for members and non-members for fellowship and fun, along with having special events such as holiday parties, ferret races, crab feasts and, demonstrations from local veterinarians. The club has also provided educational classes to homeschoolers. Whenever possible, we also help support other ferret shelters in our area.
