We are a small all volunteer rescue organization that saves dogs on death row. Most of the dogs are from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina shelters which have a very high rate of euthanasia. We also occasionally pull dogs from Texas and Ohio and will on occasion directly take in owner surrender dogs. The dogs we save have little chance of getting out of these crowded shelters alive. Most of the dogs in these shelters are highly adoptable dogs that just simply don’t have a home. Some stray away from their homes and their owners never go looking for them, while others are a result of irresponsible people breeding their animals and simply discarding them at their local kill shelter or letting them loose outside when homes can’t easily be found for them.. Did you know that the black dogs hardly ever get out of these shelters? Just because their coats are black they are killed. There are many people who simply think that black dogs are bad dogs and that there is something wrong with black dogs. How terribly wrong these people are! Because they are so many black dogs in these shelters, saving the black dogs is […]

There’s a lot about dogs that TV can tell us and there’s a lot that TV can get wrong. However, thanks to shows like Dogs 101 and channels like DOGTV, we are starting to learn and understand just how intelligent and unique each and every canine truly is. The more we understand about breeds and possible behavioral traits, the better we can understand the dogs we choose to bring into our homes. Make sure you take the time to really get to know a dog before you consider adopting. Remember that television isn’t always right when it comes to dogs; keep in mind that seeing one bad dog in the press doesn’t mean the entire breed is a threat. Develop an understanding of the breed and also make sure you’re ready to give your future dog the time and attention he or she needs to grow into a friendly and loyal companion. Favorite

We are dedicated to help end abuse, neglect, and homelessness of our domestic animals and companion animals. Domestic animals and companion animals are created by humans and depend on humans for everything. A basic premise of being a human is to treat others as you would have other treat you. This does not just apply human to human. Humans are the stewards of this planet and it is up to every human to not abuse, neglect or abandon domestic animals and if you see or are aware of abuse or neglect DO SOMETHING. HALS will be developing programs for everyone to help. We are looking humans willing to help. Favorite

LLDR is a non-profit, foster-based, no-kill rescue committed to saving homeless dogs who would otherwise face certain euthanasia, and is committed to educating new dog owners in the practices and considerations for transforming newly adopted rescue dogs to lifelong companions. LLDR endeavors to reduce the number of dogs currently in high kill shelters and to place them in loving homes. The goal and vision for LLDR is to save dogs of all sizes and all breeds by placing them into loving, permanent homes. We are an all-volunteer, foster-based, 501(c)(3) (applied for, pending approval) dog rescue organization based in Central Maryland. We do not presently have a physical shelter. Instead, we operate primarily through the dedicated support of our experienced foster homes. The majority of our animals come from high kill shelters throughout Maryland, West Virginia and North Carolina, where overcrowding and overpopulation lead to the euthanasia of millions of healthy, friendly pets every year. We also help dogs from other areas that have compelling situations where they are in danger of abuse, neglect or euthanasia. We are dedicated to providing the dogs that come into LLDR with the best possible care while they wait for their permanent homes by acclimating […]

Dogs XL is a new “breed” of dog rescue, committed to the philosophy that there is no such thing as a perfect dog or a perfect home. The right dog is out there for everyone who is willing to open heart and home to a canine companion. Dogs XL operates like a social networking service for dogs, designed to match people and pets based on the principles of compatibility and compassion. As the name implies, Dogs XL specializes in finding homes for large dogs (typically 50lbs+). Large dogs are often first to be put to sleep in shelters because medical treatment and food for large dogs is more expensive than for small dog. Large dogs also take up more space at the shelter and on transports to adoptive families. Although owning a large dog is not for everyone, large dogs have many unique and endearing qualities. Here at Dogs XL, we believe the larger the dog, the more there is to love. Occasionally, Dogs XL will intervene on behalf of a smaller dog with an XL personality. Dogs XL also works with other local rescue groups to facilitate adoptions to families that might be a better match for a smaller […]

Toy Breeds In Need Rescue (TBIN), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was created with the goal of rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing toy breed dogs in the Maryland area. It is the mission of TBIN to accept toy breed dogs regardless of age or health. TBIN provides necessary and proper veterinary care including altering (spaying/neutering) prior to placement of any and all rescued dogs, and also acts as a hospice for rescued dogs too ill or elderly to be placed in adoptive homes. TBIN uses a blend of both allopathic (traditional) and holistic veterinary medicine to provide a balanced approach to canine wellness. Our belief is that healthy dogs are happy dogs and so we work to support not only the physical body, but also the spirit! All dogs reside in foster homes and are treated as members of our families until their loving forever home is found. It is further a goal of this organization to act as an educational resource for both our adoptive families, as well as other canine guardians who are interested in learning about alternative medicine, species appropriate food, and holistic care for their four-legged family members.
